Quick Bio

The Undertaker is an American professional wrestler signed to WWE. He is the company's most tenured performer, and he's also the only remaining active competitor from the very first episode of WWE Raw in 1993. Calaway began his wrestling career with World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) in 1984. In 1990, Calaway signed with the World Wrestling Federation and The Undertaker was born. The rest, as they say, was history!

    Happy Birthday Undertaker!

Today The Phenom turns 50. In the recent batch of pictures, he looks younger than he actually is. I suspect at WM, considering the shape he’s currently in, he’ll move around like he’s younger than a 50 year old. Besides WM30, that’s what he’s essentially been doing.

50 and still wrestling. Wow. When I first saw him, I did not think he’d still be wrestling at this age. Taker’s a very rare find and Vince is still lucky, always has been that the forever loyal Undertaker needed a job and came to him because before DX, Austin, The Attitude Era, John Cena, CM Punk, The Yes Movement, The Undertaker was captaining the WWE ship and carried the company through the lean years in the early to mid 90’s after Hogan (and Warrior and Randy Savage) left. In the early 90’s, Bret and HBK were there and helped. But HBK’s attitude was a problem and he hadn’t reached the top. Bret wasn’t at the top till 1992 when he beat Flair in Saskatoon. What I’m saying is WWE always had Taker to depend on since 1990.

    • Anan on March 24th, 2015 says:

Taker shares similarities with Kane and Sting. Three of the important ones: Infinite dedication, loyalty and respect. They have put the business ahead of themselves.

Kane’s been in WWE since 1995. Yet he hasn’t had as many Title runs as individuals such as Rock, Austin, Cena, Orton. Many feel he’s underutilized, don’t like the direction of his character, and hate that WWE has replaced he monster with a jobber. I don’t agree with that. Kane’s making a ton of money, is on TV every night and is in the WWE’s top heel faction. He’s had a HOF career. That said, he deserves a Rumble win and the right to close out Wrestlemania with a Title win.

Sting wasn’t a top main event guy at first. But since becoming one thanks to Ric Flair, fame and ego have not gone to his head. Some believe he’s not great and needs the right opponent. I disagree. Sting’s great on the mic and in the ring. He is as loyal to WCW as Taker is to WWE. When people talk about The Monday Night War, they talk about Austin and Goldberg, DX and the nWo, Vince McMahon and Eric Bischoff. But lurking in the shadowy background are the foundations of that war, the model employee consummate professional loyalists to their respective companies, Taker and Sting. While I wish it was sooner, I’m glad Sting’s getting the chance to be in WWE and have a Wrestlemania Moment and I hope it’s not is only one.

Taker….what can I say about this legend that hasn’t been said already? Despite the fact that he;s only seen during WM Season, I still believe Taker is the heart and soul of WWE, the epitome of Wrestlemania, the Conscience, Cornerstone, measuring yardstick of the company, a true locker room leader, and that the ring’s still his yard. I find these to be more important than all of his in-ring accolades combined because it speaks volumes about the man portraying The Undertaker. I think his goals in wrestling were to be all those things aforementioned. But when he first got to WWE, I think he wanted to prove to WCW that they let a real talent go, that people would pay to see him. People still do. Half, if not most or all of those who watch Wrestlemania pay to see Taker. It’s been that way for many years now. He’s still one of WWE’s main draws. The other being John Cena. But while Cena represents the present, Taker represents what is besides him, gone which is the past eras, the golden ages of wrestling. Okay the early 90’s wasn’t the golden age for WWE. But The Attitude Era. Yes HHH also represents that era as does Jericho. But Jericho didn’t come to WWE since 1999 during that era and HHH wasn’t a top guy till late 1999. Taker was there before, during and after that era and was a top guy even before he beat Hogan at Survivor Series 1991 because of how he was used. Squashing a legend like Jimmy Snuka at WM, defeating Warrior at various house shows, being involved in an angle where he aligned himself with Jake Roberts and took out Randy Savage. Also, his dominating debut at the 1990 Survivor Series (technically he debuted earlier than that at a Superstars taping prior to that) While most people deteriorate with age as that is normal, Taker has not. His performances have gotten better with time. I believe his performances are better now then they were when he was younger because being older and not as physically) healthy although the recent pictures may suggest otherwise. Cena, HHH, Orton, Punk, Brock Lesnar, they have all had longer Title runs and most of those names have had more Title reigns than Taker. If Taker cared about that, he’d have politicked his way to more success or left the company if he didn’t get it. The fact that he stayed proves that for him, business comes first and the individual comes second. He’s always done what’s best for business, even letting his legendary streak end despite many fans and many who don’t work in WWE believing it was bad for business. The Undertaker is the man and has earned the distinction of being the most respected individual in the industry with the industry’s best, most successful and longest-running gimmick ever.
