ESPN is working on a 30 For 30 documentary on Ric Flair’s legendary career. Sports Illustrated ran a story this week about the upcoming special, and reported that it will air in the next 12 months, possible in the fall. Rory Karpf, who directed past 30 For 30 documentaries including I Hate Christian Laettner and The Book Of Manning, will direct the feature.
It was noted that the special is in the editing stages and will be either 90 or 120 minutes long. There are still some interviews left to film and other archive footage that they are trying to secure. Many legends were interviewed for the film, including The Undertaker, Sting, Shawn Michaels, Ricky Steamboat, Jim Ross, Eric Bischoff, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. Flair’s three living children were also interviewed, as well as Flair’s first wife, Leslie.

I hope once the editing’s done, the final version of what should be a great piece on a legendary career will include the aforementioned names above, including Taker. I’m not very familiar with Flair’s career. I only know what I saw. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Tully Blanchard and Ric had a memorable rivalry. If so, makes sense for hm to be featured here. Arn Anderson and Ric are best friends, were in the Horsement together, Arn was ap art of the build-up to Flair vs Taker for WM18 and got involved in the match. Flair spent more time in WCW and they did in WWE during his pre-2008 retirement run as a wrestler and Eric was his boss together for a good portion of those years and also his on-screen boss as RAW GM so they have history. HBK idolized Ric and was his final WWE opponent so only makes sense that he’s here. HHH also idolized Ric so he should be featred as well, as should Batista and Orton who came up through Evolution. JR called many of Ric’s matches and Ricky Steamboat, according to Flair was his greatest opponent. Sting stated Ric made him a star and requested Ric to induct him into the WWE HOF earlier this year so those 3 belong in this piece. Flair gave the story more than once about how Taker requested him as his WM18 opponent. I hope Taker remains in the final version of this special to give his comments on Flair, but also tell that story from his perspective.
